"...Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."

- Matthew 19:14

Kari's Heart Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit charitable foundation inspired by our daughter, Kari Schoondyke.

Kari was born on 8-13-2008 with life-threatening congenital heart disease and subsequently underwent open heart surgery at 9 days of age. She returned to the hospital on March 19, 2009 to have her second open heart procedure, from which, she would not recover. We lost Kari at 12:46pm on April 7, 2009 at the tender age of just 7 months.

As a consequence of Kari's illness, struggles, and tragic passing, our family was led to pass on the love and support we received to others who may be experiencing a healthcare crisis. While in the hospital with Kari, our family soon realized that many other families did not have the financial, social, or informational resources they required while their child was hospitalized for sometimes an extended period of time.

We created Kari's Heart Foundation, Inc. to lend support to these families with the goal of making an unimaginable situation just a little better. Read more about Kari's story, watch a video of her short life and find out how you can get involved by browsing our website.
